Where We Go: Somewhere between setting up your tripod beneath a Pacific sunset and wiggling your toes in the damp sand, you might wonder if the Oregon Coast was created specifically for photographers. Exploring the portion of coastline between Bandon and Florence, you create images of both the landscape and light that make this place magical. At Devil’s Elbow State Park, you photograph the iconic Heceta Head Lighthouse, a beacon that has been guiding travelers for over one hundred years. Near Coos Bay at Shore Acres State Park you surround yourself with lush ferns and the old-growth cedars that thrive in this coastal environment.

What You Learn: Nancy Rotenberg goes far beyond simply helping you photograph the Oregon Coast. Over the course of a week, she encourages you to reach out and grab life through your camera’s lens. Classroom discussions cover methods of achieving effective composition, macro techniques, previsualization and the use of color—all designed to inspire you to communicate through your images. During field shoots, she encourages you to take risks as you work to develop a thoughtful approach to photographing. Nancy’s supportive and outcome-oriented critique sessions give you the benefit of having an experienced set of eyes review your images and suggest ways you can improve.

Who Should Attend: You should be comfortable with the manual exposure operation of your camera. Both digital and film cameras are welcome on this workshop, however, only digital images can be critiqued. A pre-workshop assignment is due at the first class meeting.

This workshop begins Saturday at 7 p.m. and ends Friday at noon.
