Where We Go: Situated off the coast of North Carolina, the Outer Banks has welcomed visitors as far back as the first English settlers. More than 130 miles of unspoiled coastline provide views that stretch on forever as the shore transitions into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. During the week, you photograph at locations including the Ocracoke Lighthouse on Ocracoke Island, and the lighthouses of Bodie Island, Currituck Beach and Cape Hatteras. You create images in the towns of Nags Head, Duck, Corolla and Kitty Hawk, where your inspiration takes flight. Through the viewfinder, you witness the area’s magnificent sand dunes change color before your eyes, as the evening light sweeps across the landscape.
What You Learn: Between Tim’s landscape expertise and Eileen’s fine art photography background, this workshop broadens the horizons of your own photographic knowledge, and invites you to incorporate personal vision into your images. Throughout the week, this talented duo provides classroom lectures covering topics such as creative techniques for landscape composition, evaluating light in a coastal environment, exposure considerations for photographing water and protecting your equipment from the elements. Both instructors are available to answer your questions—one-on-one—during field shoots and to offer constructive feedback during group critiques.
Who Should Attend: You should be comfortable with the manual exposure operation of your camera. Film cameras are welcome, however only digital images can be critiqued.
