Springtime on the Peninsula: Olympic National Park

Where We Go: Boasting “three parks in one” the 1,442 square miles within Olympic National Park contain alpine, temperate rainforest and ocean ecosystems. During this inspiring week with Don Mammoser you experience the park’s beautifully diverse landscape. Around the town of Forks, photograph the fog-blanketed Pacific coastline where waves crash against the rocks at Second, Ruby and Rialto beaches. Evenings present you with crisp sunsets and offer the occasional glimpse of bald eagles. While staying in Port Angeles you venture up Hurricane Ridge, visit waterfalls Merriman, Marymere and Sol Duc, and create images of the fern-covered old growth trees in the Hoh Rainforest along the Hoh River.

What You Learn: Alongside professional photographer and former zoologist Don Mammoser, you grow in your photography skills as well as your understanding of the area’s flora and fauna. Throughout the week, Don lectures on topics ranging from landscape composition to choosing subject matter based on the day’s weather forecast to getting your lenses to focus closer on macro shots. During field shoots, Don provides one-on-one attention to help you create images you would be proud to hang on your wall or include in your portfolio. Critique sessions allow you to view and learn from your own images as well as those of your fellow participants.

Who Should Attend: You should be comfortable with the manual exposure operation of your camera. Film cameras are welcome, however only digital images can be critiqued.

This workshop begins Saturday at 7 p.m. and ends Friday at noon.
