rmsp workshop in California Photography workshop in the Eastern Sierras: Landscape of Color and Light

Where We Go: On the eastern side of California’s Sierra Mountains, the town of Bishop provides a hideaway for outdoor enthusiasts and those invigorated by the area’s landscape. On the horizon, 14,000-foot-tall peaks are capped by the season’s ever-dramatic skies. Colorful murals on the walls around this unique frontier town add pop to your images while the Mountain Light Gallery, featuring the life’s work of pioneering mountain climber and photographer Galen Rowell, provides added inspiration. Exploring the surrounding area, you photograph magic light over Mono Lake, the famous and historic Bodie ghost town, the bristlecone pines of the White Mountains as well as sunrise in the rocky landscape of Alabama Hills nestled below 14,494-foot Mount Whitney.

What You Learn:  The inspiration found in the landscape of the Eastern Sierras works its way into every image you create here. Doug provides insightful classroom lectures on a variety of topics—including creative techniques for landscape photography, the Zone system for color, digital infrared imagery, photographing landscapes with wide angle lenses and important considerations when choosing your equipment. During critique sessions you benefit from Doug's spirited feedback as well as by viewing the work of other participants.

Who Should Attend: You should be comfortable with the manual exposure operation of your camera. Film cameras are welcome, however only digital images can be critiqued.

This workshop begins Saturday at 7 p.m. and ends Friday at noon.

“The class was everything I hoped for and more! I can’t wait to put this knowledge to use on my photos.” – Lorrie H., California
