Where We Go: Long before the days of inkjet printing, the darkroom was the photographer’s sanctuary. By experimenting with chemicals in a darkroom or exposing images to the sun, photographic prints could be handcrafted to achieve a desired look. Today, these enhancements—and many more—can be emulated using digital technology. Tim Daly pays a special visit to RMSP from his home base in London to show you how you can begin to put the personal touch back into your digital prints.
What You Learn: Before delving into Photoshop’s powerful array of tools, Tim leads a class discussion about photographs, both recent and historic, and how certain printing techniques can affect the personality of an image. You begin the week learning how to digitally process your images in order to preserve maximum quality. Tim then helps you make sense of the multitude of inks, papers and other media available to photographers today. Once you have established a solid understanding of importing and organizing your pictures, Tim introduces you to the artistic world of exploring printing styles including albumen and carbon tissue. Learning to create an “imperfect” look in the digital environment opens doors for your own creativity. By week’s end, you put your new-found knowledge to work as you give your images a handcrafted look.
Who Should Attend: This class is for intermediate to advanced Photoshop users wanting to achieve maximum print quality while developing their own personal printing style.
This workshop begins Sunday at 9 a.m. and ends Friday at 5 p.m.
