Fundamentals of Exposure: F-stops and Shutter Speeds – January 22-23
When you think about it, photography is quite simple. Essentially, the entire artform is the act of balancing light and time. In this PHOTOfocus event – the first of the 2011 season – Instructor Doug Johnson introduces you to the essential elements of every image ever created with a camera: f-stops and shutter speeds.

Composition Fundamentals: How to Design a Better Photograph – February 12-13:
What’s the big deal? Find a scene, point your camera and press the button…right? Well…this certainly is one approach to taking pictures, but if you want to create photographs that are more aesthetically pleasing, learning how to properly compose a scene can work wonders for the quality of your photography. Join Doug Johnson to learn some tried and true rules for creating better images through thoughtful composition.

Understanding the Basics of Adobe Lightroom 3 – March 5-6:
Some aspects of photography will always be difficult (such as waking up at 4 a.m. to catch a sunrise or landing a job with National Geographic). Thanks to Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 3 the way you find, view, organize and edit your images will never be one of them. Join Kathy Eyster as she provides an introduction to Lightroom’s Library and Develop modules and shows you how easy it can be to manage your entire image library.

Youth Weekend: Express Yourself Through Your Photographs – March 19-20:
Whether you use a digital SLR or the cell phone in your pocket, the photos you create say a lot about who you are and how you choose to see the world. So why not take that vision and run with it? Join instructor Eileen Rafferty for a fun-filled weekend of using a camera to create art, tell stories and express yourself.

Streets of Missoula: Documentary Photography – April 16-17:
Think good street photography is something that can only be found in big cities? Think again! Eclectic people, historic architecture and quirky scenes exist around every corner of our very own downtown. Missoulian staff photographer Linda Thompson provides you with a seasoned journalist’s view of the vibrant heart of our little ‘ol Western town.

Each day Photofocus runs from 9am – 6pm with a break for lunch.
