Summer Intensive 2013
My name is Rachel and I LOVE photography. Sincerely it is an absolute love! My nightmares revolve around someone stealing my camera or not having a battery when I need one.
10 years ago while working at McMurdo Station Antarctica I attended a small crafts fair (yes they have craft fairs in Antarctica) and I was stopped in my tracks as my eyes took in amazing image after amazing image. I immediately wanted to know more, why don’t my photos look like the ones I was seeing, after all, we are both seeing the same scenery! After talking with him further he told me he had attended RMSP. This was the first time I had heard of a school for photographers. Thus began my 10 year obsession with RMSP.
I have gotten the RMSP catalog every year since. I have flipped through and been wowed by the photographs. And that spark of excitement would bubble up and I would imagine what it would be like to be immersed in photography and be around other photographers who could turn a one-hour drive into four hours depending on the light. It sounded wonderful! But money, jobs, life, health, timing didn’t allow me to attend.
Was it worth the wait?
Oh Heck Yes!
Oh the things I have learned! The instructors make learning a pure pleasure. Not only are they amazing teachers but their personal work has inspired and challenged me. They have filled my head with knowledge and left me wanting more! My fellow classmates have also been a source of inspiration. They made the intense part of SI enjoyable, and now I have friendships that I will hold onto for years to come.
RMSP has been everything I wanted it to be and more. I have noticed my photographs becoming more deliberate and improving, I still have lots of room for improvement, but I feel as though I have the knowledge to build on to strive towards making them better. I would do it all again in a heartbeat…but I have more dreams to follow first. I feel I need to thank Neil & Jeanne for having the foresight for starting this amazing school.
I know I am closer to actually reaching some of my goals having been to RMSP.
