Rob Sylvan

Rob Sylvan is a photographer, teacher, and author, who is also the Lightroom Help Desk Specialist for KelbyOne, and an instructor for the Bryan Peterson School of Photography and the Digital Photo Workshops. Rob writes the “Under the Loupe” column for Photoshop User Magazine, and is the author of many photography related books and videos such as Lightroom 5: Streamlining Your Digital Photography Process, Lightroom 3 Video QuickStart Guide, Taking Stock, and Nikon D750: From Snapshots to Great Shots to name a few. In 2002, while working as an instructional designer, Rob started shooting stock as a hobby that quickly led to a joining the (then) six-person team inspecting all the submissions to iStockphoto. In 2005 Rob was tasked with the responsibility of providing detailed feedback to all contributors looking to understand the underlying reasons for their rejected submissions, which led to the creation of the very successful Scout program on iStockphoto. Over nearly a decade he was part of the content team that grew the collection from under 30,000 files to over nine million. After leaving iStockphoto Rob went on to become one of the founding contributors to Stocksy United, where he currently serves on the board of directors. Witnessing the stock industry from the inside out provided incredible insight into all the facets of what it takes to create useful stock imagery.
