RMSP Daily Image: #115

As some of our regular followers have known for some time (yes, I mean you, Barry!), for several months now we’ve been attempting to post daily images taken by the RMSP staff and share them with you on the blog. We called this the “RMSP 365 Day Project.” It has become apparent that to keep this up was becoming a bit challenging simply because our staff is busy while in the office, and our supply of images was becoming limited. So, in order to freshen it up a bit, we’re going to do things differently. From now on, we’re going to call this feature the “RMSP Daily Image” and we plan on showing off a broader variety of outstanding work on our blog. Daily, we will randomly select an image from our humungous library of images submitted to us by staff, past students and contributors to the monthly assignments and post it in this feature. Yesterday, daily image #114 was the first such image taken by Career Training 2011 alum, Alex Teas. Today is the 115th Daily Image and we’re proud to share one he calls “Scattered Jewels” by one of our most avid followers and submitters of work, Barry Grivett. Thank you all for your support, contributions, feedback and enthusiasm.   We hope you return to the blog daily to see if one of your images has been chosen to grace this feature!

Barry,

I’m a big fan of abstracts, so I really like this shot. The colors definitely draw me in, and I’m enjoying the square format too; but the thing that “caps” this image off for me is that yellow leaf in the corner that adds a touch of the unexpected. Well seen, Barry! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Mel, for your appreciation. At my local photo club, a (traditional) judge felt the leaf was too close to the corner.

You may know, this was one of my images submitted for the RMSP December Assignment: Patterns. I was too busy (having fun) in the run-up to the holidays to shoot for that assignment; so, I drew this and my other submissions from my image archive: it’s just rain puddled on an oil slick in a parking lot.

Even so, this was a marvelous exercise for me: after viewing your and the other submissions, I’m seeing patterns EVERYWHERE and LOVING it!

RMSP, you’ve REALLY opened my eyes. In fact, (1) I discovered some of my other images are Pattern Shots without having realized it; and, (2) I’ve embarked on a Pattern project–which I’ve wanted to do for some time.

Finally, I’d like to plug RMSP’s Weekend Program(s) in Sacramento (February 11-12, 2012) and elsewhere. Two years ago, I attended this weekend program and highly recommend it to anyone who would seriously like to take their photography up a notch. Check the website; see what you think. Originally, I was skeptical; but, found the experience totally worthwhile even with a 5-hour drive each way to/from Reno & the hotel bill.
