Happy Earth Day! Here are a few more ways that RMSP tries to reduce, reuse and recycle.
RMSP is a member of Missoula in Motion
, an organization that encourages alternative commuting. As members we receive bus passes for all our employees and other incentives if we commute in more Earth-friendly ways. They have a terrific website where members can log their sustainable commutes, keep track of sustainable miles and see how many pounds of carbon dioxide are kept out of the air.
We also encourage our students to using alternative transportation to commute around Missoula while they are here. Every summer during our Career Training
program our students are encouraged to bike to class rather than drive. Seeing how Missoula is a rather bike-friendly town, most of our students love doing this! In fact, we’ve been so successful in our efforts of encouraging students to bike, we had to work with the City of Missoula to install additional bike racks outside our offices and classrooms. In our Workshops
program, we strongly encourage participants to carpool to and from locations.
RMSP uses a direct deposit system for paychecks, and paystubs are distributed electronically to each employee reducing the amount of paper we use.
We recycle in all of our classrooms and partner with a company called Tear It Up for our paper waste. Tear It Up takes all of the paper we would toss in the garbage, shreds it, then sends it to paper mills on the west coast and other great outlets like pet stores, llama ranches, and compost companies where they reuse the shredded paper.
We aren’t done yet! RMSP is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to run our business that won’t compromise the environment. As we make more earth friendly changes to our methods, we’ll let you know.
