Emily Jordan — Colorado
Course: Summer Intensive 2012
Before I came to RMSP, I knew a little bit about photography, but I was very excited about learning
more about lighting and how to deal with it; whether it was in the studio or on location. I also
wanted to learn how to tell stories through my images, and I can now say that I can do both of those
things.
I knew that SI would be intense, but I didn't quite realize how intense it would be. I had late nights,
early mornings, and didn't get much sleep, but it was all well worth it! I was kept very busy with
assignments, and just shooting for fun. It was great to eat, sleep, talk, and think photography all
the time!
I learned to make my camera an extension of my hand. It is something that goes with me everywhere now. I
never know when I'll come across something that could be made into an image, and it's great to be ready
for that. Thanks to the amazing instructors at RMSP, I can now be ready for almost any situation I come
across.
The instructors and assistants were great! They were always very willing to answer questions and help with
any images I needed to have looked at. They were very encouraging as well, and were always helping to make
my work better.
The group I was placed in was the best! Those people became like my family for 11 weeks! I made lifelong
friends during SI; friends that I can always go to for advice, inspiration, and encouragement when it comes
to my work. RMSP's Summer Intensive program was awesome!
