Course: Denver Photo Weekend
I was so excited to attend a Weekend with the Rocky Mountain School of Photography. I was in a
photographic rut and needed some fresh ideas, so I decided to start again with the basics. The
Weekend was reasonably priced, the classes covered a wide range of skills and I wanted to attend
all of them. I asked a friend to come along so we could get the most out of the Weekend.
Between us we went to every class listed, then exchanged notes at the end. The energy level was
high and my desire to learn was even greater! The teachers in Denver, Doug Johnson and Tim Cooper,
were extremely knowledgeable! The amount of information that I came away with had me spinning in
circles. It gave me a desire to learn more, practice and try new things I had never thought to try
before.
My absolute favorite part of the whole weekend was having an image critiqued. I was so nervous
to have my image displayed in front of the entire group. But as soon as Tim started analyzing my
photo out loud, I had a burning desire to have 100 more critiqued! I learned so much by hearing
what a professional photographer had to say about how I could improve my composition. Very
encouraging! Tim has a deep knowledge of Adobe® Photoshop® and the Zone System, and was very clear
in communicating both.
Doug gave a beautiful perspective on light and watching how it falls on objects. Overall, their
methods of teaching were second to none!
I would strongly recommend attending this Weekend experience if you want to get your feet wet.
I left feeling uplifted, challenged, and most of all motivated to be creative and artistic; to
be thoughtful and intentional with every shot I take! I will most definitely attend again.
