As an institution that prides itself on teaching people about the impact a photo can have, it may seem
ironic when we say that when it comes to our hometown of Missoula, Montana…pictures just don’t do it justice!
Not only is it hard to capture the essence of this place in a photograph, our Career Training students who
are here for five months often feel like they barely even scratched the surface of what this place offers.
Surrounded by wilderness, the town of Missoula lies at the hub of five valleys and no matter where you find
yourself in town the Blackfoot, Bitterroot and Clark Fork Rivers are always within casting distance. In
fact, the Clark Fork runs right through the heart of town and commands the attention of fly fishers, inner
tubers, kayakers and of course, photographers on an almost daily basis. And it’s not just the natural
attractions that make our little Western town so unique. A fine selection of restaurants, local breweries,
historic watering holes, galleries and shops fill the downtown district and keep Missoula’s 67,000 residents
coming back for more. Attractions like the Missoula Art Museum, Missoula Children’s Theatre, Farmers’ Market
and entities such as the University of Montana and the Forest Service’s regional headquarters work double
time to keep Missoula visible and viable.
If good times are the result of good people existing in a good place, Missoula is the epicenter of good times.
