Where We Go: Perhaps it’s the climate. Maybe it’s the geography. Whatever it is, Victoria, British Columbia, nicknamed “The City of Gardens,” is without a doubt one of the most picturesque and comfortable cities in the world. Everywhere you look, colorful gardens accent buildings that date back to the mid-1800s. During this workshop, you create images of the activity at Fisherman’s Wharf, the colors at Oak Bay Marina and the remarkable architecture found in North America’s second oldest Chinatown. While making your way around the city, you visit Beacon Hill, Goldstream Provincial Park, Hatley Castle, and the 55 gorgeous acres of Butchart Gardens.
What You Learn: Tony’s sense of humor and approachable teaching style puts you at ease and allows you to concentrate on building upon your existing photographic strengths. After a review of topics including exposure, quality of light, color theory and creative techniques, you venture around Victoria creating images that inspire and challenge your abilities. Tony gives individual and group assignments designed to give you practice in a specific area while allowing you to make—and then learn from—your mistakes. He is available to answer any questions you may have while in the field. Daily critique sessions provide honest and detailed feedback for you to identify areas in which you can improve.
Who Should Attend: You should be comfortable with the manual exposure operation of your camera or have taken Intermediate Photography. Both digital images and 35 mm slides can be critiqued.
This workshop begins Sunday at 1 p.m. and ends Friday evening.
