Where We Go: Centuries before miners descended upon the area occupied by present day Ouray, Colorado, members of the Ute tribe flocked to the mountains and valleys here for the idyllic conditions and the healing powers of the natural spring waters. Today, people are still attracted to Ouray and the surrounding area to experience the views of 14,000-foot-tall peaks, high-mountain meadows and the rugged history of this former mining town. During this workshop, you access the backcountry in 4x4 Jeeps where you photograph colorful fields of wildflowers. You visit Yankee Boy Basin, California and Black Bear Passes, Dallas Divide and the Million Dollar Highway—all places where the photographic opportunities seem endless.
What You Learn: Having seasoned photographers and instructors Tim and Lynn at your side helps improve your technique. In the classroom, they cover topics including the Zone system of exposure, landscape composition and macro photography. Moving to the field, you benefit from ample time practicing the topics presented to ensure you have a solid understanding of them when it counts the most. Each instructor works with you, one-on-one, in order to answer your questions and provide pointers. Critique sessions allow you to watch your progress and learn from other participants.
Who Should Attend: You should be comfortable with the manual exposure operation of your camera. Film cameras are welcome, however only digital images can be critiqued.
