Rob Sylvan is a photographer, teacher, and author, who is also a Help Desk Specialist for the National Association of Photoshop Professionals and Kelby Training, and an instructor for the Perfect Picture School of Photography and Lightroom Workshops. Rob writes the "Under the Loupe" column for Photoshop User Magazine, and is the author of Lightroom 2 for Dummies, Lightroom 3 Video QuickStart Guide, Taking Stock, and Nikon D5100: From Snapshots to Great Shots. In 2002, while working as an instructional designer, Rob started shooting stock as a hobby that quickly led to a joining the (then) six-person team inspecting all the submissions to iStockphoto. In 2005 Rob was tasked with the responsibility of providing detailed feedback to all contributors looking to understand the underlying reasons for their rejected submissions, which led to the creation of the very successful Scout program on iStockphoto. Over nearly a decade he was part of the content team that grew the collection from under 30,000 files to over nine million. Witnessing the stock industry from the inside out provided incredible insight into all the facets of what it takes to create useful stock imagery.
