20 Years of Summer Intensive.
In 2008, we celebrate our 20th Summer Intensive course. More than a token cause
for celebration, we see this anniversary as an opportunity—a time to evaluate our
strengths, the qualities that brought us to where we are today, and most important,
how we can use them to make our students’ futures as bright as they can be. So what
are those qualities? Looking back, we found that our strong suit has been people:
the instructors, the students and all the friends who support our unique brand of
education. They have all truly made it our privilege to teach what we love. Many
students, when they reflect on their time here, are filled with emotion and enthusiasm.
They remember it as a critical time in their lives, a summer, week, or weekend that
guided them to a new path and changed their lives in a positive way. That’s why
we do it. That’s what we work so hard to achieve. Of course, just because we changed
lives and had a good time along the way, we’re not finished growing or improving.
In fact, we’ve realized that growing and improving are the very qualities that have
been critical to RMSP’s success. In the process, students have gained much more
than knowledge and skills. They’ve made connections with those around them. They’ve
embraced diversity. They’ve learned how support and encouragement are essential
to the artist’s journey. And in recognizing the vulnerability of others, our students
have been inspired by the sheer joy of community. Our humble thanks go out to all
the students, staff and faculty who have been a part of the school during the past
20 years. We know you share in our excitement as we reflect on what we’ve all done,
and where we’re all going.
